NEW IN GERMANY

ACT GLOBAL | FEEL LOCAL

HOME & HAPPY

Have you and your family just arrived in Germany?

Welcome! And congratulations – you have chosen a wonderful place to live! But I expect it all still feels a bit overwhelmingly foreign and confusing.

Don’t worry – we can help you feel at home here very quickly, by teaching you what you need to know so you and your family can navigate daily life in Germany successfully. We pick up where your relocation agency left off, and guide you through the more personal (and less administrative) side of finding your feet here.

During this course, you will learn about the German healthcare system, local customs and traditions, practical issues like shopping, driving, cycling & public transport, childcare and the school system, “must see” places, “must try” local cuisine, and much more.

You will also have the opportunity to ask specific questions about real issues you are facing. Bring along any letters or emails you are having trouble understanding, ask about any cultural differences you’re finding difficult, or ask where to find something you desperately need!

Let us support and guide you in getting to know your new home, and making your German nest a happy, cosy one so you and your family can really enjoy your time here.

FAQ

Who is this course for?

Primarily this course is designed for mums and/or dads who have just arrived in Germany and want to learn all about how life in their new country works, so they can go about daily life confidently, and make the most of their German experience.

But even if you’ve already been here in Germany for a while, if you would like to learn more about surviving family life in Germany, you are very welcome to join.

We know that it can be easy to stay within your safe expat bubble initially – but if you break out and embrace the German experience, your time here will be so much richer, and more enjoyable! Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss whether the course would be useful for you.

What will I learn?

Our aim is to provide you with as much information as possible about various aspects of family life in Germany, so you feel able to cope with situations that are part of daily life as a parent.

This includes seemingly simple things like shopping (what to buy where, opening hours, payment, online shopping, second-hand and fairtrade options, organic food, recycling and deposit bottle systems, etc.), bigger topics like the German healthcare system (finding a doctor, what to do in an emergency, how treatment and medicines are paid for, etc.) and how to drive/cycle/use public transport confidently and easily (and without breaking the law), an overview of the German school system, and invaluable information about “what the Germans are like”, as well as loads of ideas for places to visit, food to try, and activities for you and your children.

Will I be able to ask questions?

YES!

At each session there is a part reserved for you to ask specific questions about issues you have encountered (be that a letter you don’t understand, or a situation you experienced that you would like to talk about, or an issue you are unsure how to deal with).

Where is the course held?

We are based in the Taunus area, and all of our groups/classes are held in the greater Frankfurt / Taunus area. Currently, we offer the Home & Happy course in Oberursel.

Other locations will follow soon. Do get in touch if there isn’t a location that suits you, and we might be able to add a new location closer to you.
