PARENT IN GERMANY

Do you have a baby or young child? Are you living in Germany but don’t speak the language? Or are you originally from abroad and craving some international company for you and your little one? Then we have just what you are looking for! Our new “Mixed Monday Meet-Up” provides a playgroup where pregnant mums, mums & dads of babies and mums & dads of toddlers can get together, share their experiences, enjoy seeing their children interact, and get answers to all their questions about family life in Germany.
At our Minis & Moms* stay and play “playgroup plus” for 1-3 year olds, you not only have the chance to meet and mingle with other international families, but you can also get help with specific areas of daily life in Germany that you are struggling with, and the toddlers / children enjoy fun and stimulating activities and playtime as well as benefitting from booktime and singing in German (*dads are of course equally welcome!)
At our Mummy & Me groups, we guide you through the first 12 months of parenthood with a baby in Germany. At our Daddy & Me groups, we provide dads with the opportunity to meet other fathers of babies / toddlers and receive the support that is sadly often reserved for moms. These groups are currently paused, so do look at the two playgroups to connect with other international families.
And if you don’t want a regular commitment but would love to connect with other expats and their children, then our monthly international breakfast that we host at the Familientreff family centre in Oberursel is just the thing for you!

Then sign up for our Monday Meet-Up and let experienced QEKK-trained group leader Clare (British, mother of two) answer your questions about family life and parenthood in Frankfurt and the Taunus area, share her experience and knowledge of having children here in Germany, and support you through your early parenting journey, so you can enjoy seeing your little one meet other children (or observing what you have to look forward to…!) whilst getting to know other parents who understand just how you are feeling and what you are going through. The English-speaking group in Oberursel am Taunus (not far from Frankfurt) – a cross between a playgroup for babies and toddlers and a support group – is designed to take the pressure off you a bit, to provide you with an English-speaking environment where you can be supported in your parenting journey.    

Minis & Moms* is an English-speaking playgroup for international families and is much more than “just” a get together. Every week, bilingual Germany-expert Clare answers your specific questions about any aspect of day-to-day life you need help with (a letter/email you don’t understand, explaining how things work here in Germany, an appointment you need to make, etc.) And as well as providing stimulating play circuits and activities for the children to enjoy which enhance their motor skills, Clare also introduces them to the German language by looking at books and singing with them. We follow a routine so the children know what to expect, and this encompasses both free play and guided activities (which, of course, the children may or may not choose to participate in…but don’t worry, we know you can’t force a toddler to do anything they don’t feel happy doing! The important thing is that you and your child have the opportunity to interact and make friends with other families in English.)

From local traditions and customs through healthcare and medical topics to the all-important childcare options, and much more – we can talk about whatever you are struggling with.

Daddy & Me father and baby/toddler groups for dads with children aged 0-18 months are in English. They are designed to help you – a non-German-speaking dad, a dad new to the area, or a dad struggling to find other stay-at-home dads to socialise with – to navigate and enjoy parenthood in Germany in/around Oberursel.

Becoming a dad can be a daunting experience. And being a stay-at-home dad can be a tough job in a world that is still dominated by mums! It’s wonderful being able to bond so intensely with your child, but there aren’t many activities specifically for fathers, and while it can be lovely connecting with mums who have children a similar age, there are things that only a fellow father can understand properly! If you are dealing with the extra challenges of a language you don’t speak, the lack of family close by, and a culture you may not be familiar with, you probably feel like you could do with some support!

That’s why we are starting the Daddy & Me group. Because it is so important to have a network of friends to share your parenthood journey with, and to have people to talk to who are going through exactly what you are going through. It means you can chat openly and honestly about your daily life – the good and the bad – and support each other by sharing advice or just sympathy!

At Daddy & Me you and your baby / toddler can meet others in the same situation.

We support you through the various stages of early parenthood, provide inspiration for fun, stimulating activities you can do with your little one, provide invaluable information about life as a parent in Germany, and give you the opportunity to share and discuss the challenges you may be facing. And of course, hopefully you and your child will make friends you can also socialise with outside of the group.
