For those of us with children – and/or those who are young at heart – once a year, the question arises of how to celebrate that very special day. Personally, I still like traditional parties at home, at least for younger children. Old favourites like pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, musical statues and the like are still popular in our house. (And thankfully, my children are very forgiving of my amateur efforts at cake decorating…smarties rule!)
But there comes a time when the children want a bit more excitement – or when we parents just can’t stand the thought of all the preparation, mess and noise! One of the lovely ladies in my Home & Happy in Germany class was looking for inspiration recently, so I started researching – and I was amazed by the vast array of different activities on offer in and around the Frankfurt / Taunus / Rhein-Main area for a children’s birthday party (Kindergeburtstag). So I thought I’d share my findings with you all, as I know how hard it can be trying to research things in a foreign language – especially when you don’t even know what you might be looking for! These are not personal recommendations as of course I haven’t been to most places. And the list is not complete – I am sure there are many more amazing places or events I haven’t discovered yet. But I have tried to compile a selection of varied ideas for potential venues for a party/event.

You will also find plenty of places that hire out rooms for you to celebrate in. Many kindergartens, Familienzentrum, and some churches do (or at least did, pre-covid). In Oberursel, Glücksmomente and the Alte Wache in Oberstedten, the Familientreff in the town centre and the Galerie360 “Kreativwerkstatt” (where you can also book a craft activity for during the party) at the Krebsmühle on the road to Frankfurt all have rooms you can hire, for example.
There are also companies who come to your house/venue and throw the party for (or with) you. For example, GeburtstagsGlück (based in Frankfurt) offers various packages for a themed birthday party and lots more besides.
